Sauraha, Chitwan – To mark World Ranger Day, Nepal placed the spotlight on frontline conservationists through an event organized in Sauraha in Chitwan National Park.

The event began with a rally of and for rangers with the slogan, “I Stand with the World’s Rangers”. More than 300 people participated in the rally comprising rangers and representatives from the government, conservation agencies such as WWF Nepal and NTNC, hotel association, civil society and media.
The rally culminated in a panel discussion with representatives from the government, WWF Nepal and the local community on the role and issues facing frontline conservationists in Nepal. It was agreed that in the changing political context and federal structure of Nepal, the leading role of rangers and frontline conservationists will need to be upheld and their rights and interests protected.
Preparations are underway to organize the next edition of World Ranger Congress in Nepal, a first for Asia, in November 2019 under the leadership of International Ranger Federation in partnership with local liaison, Wildlife Conservation Association Nepal and supported by the government, WWF Nepal, National Trust for Nature Conservation, and regional hotel association of Nepal.
