Securing a future for Nepal’s biodiversity
This week, WWF Nepal, CARE Nepal, ICIMOD, IUCN, TMI, and Winrock took advantage of a critical window of opportunity to help shape the future policies of Nepal with regard to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development by presenting the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee of the Government of Nepal with a joint statement. The recommendations were very well received and the committee assured us that it would be incorporated in the draft constitution. Senior representatives from all the organizations met Hon. Mr Laxman Aryal, Chairman, and members of the committee on Thursday, 13 July. Dr Chandra Gurung, Country Representative, and Santosh Mani Nepal, Regional Director, represented WWF Nepal.
An appeal to the nation asking for all stakeholders to come together and commit to the future of a living planet was printed in two leading daily newspapers, The Himalayan Times (English) and Kantipur (Nepali).
