Kathryn Fuller Trust Fund Initiated
Dr Chandra Gurung announced a trust fund in the name of Kathryn Fuller, former President of WWF US, to aid the children of park staff in need.
A trust fund in the name of Kathryn Fuller, former President of WWF US, to aid the children of park staff in need was announced by Dr Chandra P Gurung, Country Representative WWF Nepal in Chitwan on 14 August. It was initiated after the tragic loss of five Parsa Wildlife Reserve staff that were killed by a landmine inside the reserve in November 2004. The total amount of the Kathryn Fuller Trust Fund is NRs 10,55,250 (approx USD 15,000) and the first children to benefit will be the those of the park staff who died. It will be provided to children of lower- and mid-level staff of Parsa Wildlife Reserve and Chitwan National Park in the future. Interest from the fund will be used to provide for the Scholarship. The TAL will contribute with some additional support in the first year. On the occasion, the Chairperson of the Buffer Zone Management Committee also committed to adding to the trust fund in order to support the children of more staff. Mr Narayan Poudel, DG-DNPWC, thanked WWF Nepal and encouraged park staff to stay committed to conservation. The decision of the Programme Executive Committee to support the annual education of two rangers for a Bachelors degree in the Institute of Forestry in Nepal annually was also shared. The nomination of the staff will be filed by the DNPWC. Also present were the Director Generals of DNPWC and DOF, Dr Tirtha Man Maskey, present and former Chief Wardens, Chitwan National Park—Mr Tika Ram Adhikari, Ram Prit Yadav and Shiva Raj Bhatta— Mr Santosh Mani Nepal, Regional Director WWF Nepalgunj, Purna Bahadur Kunwar, TAL Sector Manager, Chairperson of the Buffer Zone Management Committee and Mirgakunj Buffer Zone User Committee, and staff of Chitwan National Park.
