Earth Hour 2025: A Nationwide Celebration Culminates in an Unforgettable Concert in Bharatpur, Chitwan!

Bharatpur, Nepal, 22 March 2025 – This year, Nepal’s Earth Hour 2025 celebration was bigger than ever, uniting communities nationwide through a series of impactful environmental initiatives. The highlight of the movement was the exciting Earth Hour Event in the vicinity of Chitwan National Park in Bharatpur, featuring renowned and emerging Nepali artists, bringing together music, culture, and sustainability.

For Earth Hour, Bharatpur came alive with a star-studded concert, uniting music lovers and environmental advocates. The event featured a lineup of talented local artists, including Sameera Sunar & Sandesh Bishwokarma, Razan Thapaliya, Subarna Poudel, and Shiva Kandel. The grand performance of the night was delivered by the beloved Trishna Gurung and the Collab Band, setting the stage for an electrifying night dedicated to climate awareness and action.

Beyond the music, the event showcased local delicacies from homestays supported by WWF Nepal, offering visitors a taste of Nepal’s rich culinary heritage. Additionally, attendees also explored handicrafts created by community beneficiaries, highlighting sustainable livelihoods and traditional craftsmanship. The event was attended by around 5000 people including local youth, environmentalists, local government authorities and conservation organizations.

Earth Hour 2025 extended beyond Bharatpur, mobilizing communities across Nepal to take part in various conservation efforts leading up to the main event:
  • River Cleanup in Chitwan (World Wetlands Day, 2nd February 2025) – A large-scale river cleaning campaign in partnership with local organizations, emphasizing the importance of river and wetlands in biodiversity conservation.
     
  • Pre-Earth Hour Clean-Ups:
    • Devghat Dham Treasure Hunt & Clean-Up (17 March 2025) – Led by Better Chitwan, removing 179 kg of non-biodegradable waste with 40 volunteers.
    • Narayani River (Gaidakot side) (20 March 2025) – Organized by Sahamati, collecting 40 sacks of waste with 78 volunteers.
    • Narayani River (Amaltari & Lamichaur sites) (21 March) – Coordinated by Sahamati and the Terai Arc Landscape team, gathering 750 kg of waste with 150-200 volunteers.
       
  • Far Western Nepal: River Clean-Up & Creative Engagement in Kailali – A two-day river cleanup in Karnali River and Jamara Canal by 258 volunteers addressing local water pollution, followed by an art competition for school children and a meditation session to promote mindfulness and conservation.
     
  • Kathmandu Collaboration: Engaging Local Cafés – Roadhouse Café and Hard Rock Café also took part in the global “switch-off” movement, raising awareness among guests about the significance of Earth Hour and sustainable living.
     
  • Collaboration with Ncell telecom company- In collaboration with WWF Nepal, Ncell telecom company sent a mass text to 4 million people across Nepal to raise awareness about earth hour.
