The "Breaking the Illegal Wildlife Trade Chain in Bagmati Province, Nepal" project aims to disrupt illegal wildlife trade (IWT) by addressing key systemic weaknesses. Bagmati Province, a major wildlife trafficking corridor, faces challenges such as inadequate law enforcement capacity, exploitation of transportation networks, and economic vulnerability of communities engaged in poaching.
The project, implemented from April 2023 to March 2026, seeks to reduce IWT by 50% along five major trafficking routes. Key interventions include strengthening law enforcement by training 390 Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) officials at 100 strategic checkpoints, supported by a new digital identification manual for wildlife parts.
