WWF Nepal calls on government authorities to investigate reported incidents involving Chepang community

Posted on 07 August 2020
In late July, Nepal media reported two separate and deeply concerning incidents in Chitwan National Park involving government army patrols, park authorities and members of the local Chepang indigenous community. Upon learning of these reports, WWF-Nepal immediately reached out to the relevant government authorities (the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, and the Directorate of National Parks and Wildlife Reserves of the Nepal Army) to urge full investigation of the incidents, which we understand are in progress, and to share WWF’s strong conviction that conservation should never come at the expense of human rights and wellbeing. WWF Nepal will continue to advocate for clarity and transparency in establishing the facts, and for any perpetrators to be brought to justice.
