Chandra Gurung Memorial Fellowship
Dr. Chandra Gurung, who worked in conservation sector since 1988, served as the head of WWF's Nepal program for 7 years. His expertise included eco-tourism, sustainable development, integrated conservation and development and protected area management. He was the one to design the first community-based integrated conservation and development project - the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) - and implemented this as its director under the aegis of the National Trust for Nature Conservation, where he served as Member Secretary (CEO) from 1992-1994.
In honor of the late Chandra Gurung and his life-long commitment to conservation, WWF has established a Memorial Fellowship Fund that will provide financial assistance to conservationists from Nepal who wishes to pursue Master’s degree in conservation-related field.
Recognizing the tremendous loss of leadership with his untimely and tragic death, through this fund WWF will help build a new generation of conservation leaders to take on the many challenges facing Nepal in preserving its rich natural heritage.
From 2007 till now, Chandra Gurung Memorial Fellowship has been awarded to following students who showed financial need, and extraordinary talent and interest in conservation field.
